Re: Why Do You Ship What You Ship

I generally tend to do the whole "friends to lovers" thing with the pairings I like. I like ships where the characters involved have developed a close bond, and have built up a history together, one where they trust each other and provide a stability for each other that they might not otherwise have. I like pairings that, when I think about them together, I can imagine them coming home to each other at the end of the day (or if they're canon, I enjoy seeing them as a couple in canon and find them believable), and I can imagine them being together for the long haul.

My ships are also the sort where they might be different on small-scale levels in terms of personal interests and personality quirks (one might be more of a worrywart while the other's more confident, one might be an introverted nerdy sort while the other's an outgoing, active sort, and so on and so forth)...but on the big issues, they're on the same page (maybe they both love/want kids, or they both care about helping people for a living, or they both want to settle down, or whatever). There's always something important they have in common that draws them together.

I do tend to be a multi-shipper sort, too, mainly because the characters in the shows I like tend to have good chemistry with other characters as well, so I like exploring the different kinds of relationships they could have when and where possible. And if I have a favorite character, I can usually find at least one or two other pairings I might like involving them...but I don't put them with just any ol' person that crosses their path. No matter how many pairings I might like with said character, I still want all the pairings involving them to have the criteria mentioned above.

Even with my multi-shipping tendencies, though, at the end of the day, there will always be certain pairings I'll be especially partial to.
