What were some of the MUST HAVE Christmas toys you remember when growing up?

BEANIE BABIES

YEAAAAH Beanie babies man! They're my childhood. Beanie babies (not barbies) were what my sister and I played with as kids.

Oh man. I am not proud to admit I was OBSESSED with beanie babies for several years as a preteen. They were all I wanted for Christmases and birthdays. I think I amassed at least a hundred of them, and even a couple that were a bit pricey. I weep for all that wasted money.

FURBIES.

I got one and was so terrified I hid in my sleeping bag while It talked on the table.

I had two of them. I tried to teach them curse words. :(

Oh my god, I was so excited when I got one back in... 2000 I think? Until it woke up in the middle of the night on my bedside table. "WHIRRR, WHRRRNG, COCK-A-DOODLE-DOOOO, HAHAHAHAHA"

My sister promptly yanked the batteries out and threw it in a cupboard. Those fuckers wouldn't fall asleep again for hours.

I got one and was so underwhelmed, it didn't really do anything and then it broke in like week.

Biggest waste of money my parents ever spent on a toy.

Oh, god, Furbies. We eventually wound up with five of those things-there were the ones my parents got for me and my sister, plus a few others that people didn't want anymore and somehow dumped off on us.

They were such weird toys.

I wanted a Furby so badly, but after my friend told me that hers wouldn't stop talking at night, I was kinda glad I didn't get one.

I wasn't a kid when those were popular, I was an adult, but they are kinda creepy looking.

Tickle Me Elmo. I remember my dad looking EVERY WHERE for one for my brother. And then he was terrified of it. :/

I was...12, I believe, when those came out, so I'm thankful to have missed out on that craze :p. One of my second cousins had one of those when she was a toddler, though.

I was about to post about Cabbage Patch Kids. I was actually too old for them but wow they were a big deal that Christmas.

I remember news stories about people getting into fistfights over Cabbage Patches at Xmas.

I remember the year that all I wanted was a toy lightsaber. I got two, a green one and a red one. I was ecstatic. Other than that, often what I really wanted was books.

Fuck I don't even know what toys are big at all? Is it hatchimals or was that last year?

I don't remember any from when I was a young kid. I was pretty oblivious to what was "cool" when I was little, and I don't remember my family ever talking about it so idk if I just don't remember, or if toy crazes just wasn't a Thing in the 80s USSR.

But pogs were huge when I first got to the US. Lots of kids at school had pogs. And tamagotchis a little later? Furbies were the big thing when I was in.... middle school I guess? And video games. Playstation kids vs. Nintendo kids haha the console wars were intense. Pokemon cards and beanie babies hit a little later, when I was in high school.

I know Hatchimals were big, this year I think it's LOL Dolls. They're adorable but the gimmicks don't quite work when they're so teeny...

Hot toys when I was a kid: Baby Tender Love, Atari game systems, Shogun Warriors, Hotwheels cars, banana seat bikes, Big Wheels, Easy Bake Ovens (I was a kid in the 70s and 80s)

Toys I don't get: Fingerlings. Okay, they're cute, but...is that all they do, just clamp onto your finger?

Fingerling Monkey toys. I bought one to see what the fuss was about. It is cute, but very boring once the novelty of making it make a fart sound wears off. The plastic stuff on my monkey's paws started coming off the second time I played with it and I was extremely careful while handling it. I checked their Facebook page and several other people have complained about the same issue.

I can't remember what toys were a big must-have for Christmas when I was a kid. All I wanted were Disney movies on VHS, books, stuffed animals, Littlest Pet Shop toys, and Grand Champion model horses. I asked my Mom and she said she bought me an Oopsie Daisy doll and a teacher Barbie play set that were hard to get.

Apparently 'Fingerlings' are the big toy this year. The report is that the store isn't even getting to put them on the shelves, as soon as a box comes in it's divvied up to pre-orders.

The only Must Have I remember growing up was a Power Wheels Jeep. I got one one year and I was over the moon. Otherwise I was very much a horse-freak of a child and only really wanted toy horses and toy horse accessories. So I may have gotten some hot toys, but I very much don't remember them.

I have no idea what toys are bit this year. Every single person I know is either over the age of 22 or under the age of 4 and therefore doesn't care if I am unaware.
