Fuck this Christmas

[personal profile] philstar22 2017-12-22 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
So, my mom went to the dermatologist to get some moles burned off. Only one wasn't a mole, they just got the biopsy back, and it was a melanoma. They got it early, thankfully. But my grandfather died of a melanoma that metastasized. And my friend died just a year ago of another cancer. I can't deal with this. I'm scared. I thought I had moved past my friend's death, but now it is all back as if it was yesterday. I don't want my mom to die. And she's already had cancer once, and she's still having side effects years later. What is this going to do to her health? God, I just can't. I can barely breathe. I guess it was good I hadn't found a job yet. If they were in the Philippines, I have no idea if this would have been caught in time.

Sorry for the stream of consciousness. Just don't know what to do.

Take some deep breaths, remind yourself that they caught it early, so there's likely no long term detriments to your mom's health and if all else fails, play with your kitty for some mindless distraction for awhile.

You're right. I'm just not doing well right now. I need to stop worrying. It is hard.

All of this.

I'm sorry about your mom's health scare, philstar. But I'm glad it was caught early. Wishing her good health going forward, and wishing your family well in general.

I sympathize with the fear, though. It's tough when your parent has health problems, even if they're fixable ones or ones that get caught/treated quickly.

I hope your mom does OK. (The Philippines? Is your mom Pinoy?)

No, my parents work there normally. They were back here for a year, and then I had to move back home. They can't go back until I have a job.

I would say she should always have every suspect spot and bit of flaky skin checked.

My Mum has semi-regular issues with skin cancers, part of which she attributes to one time when a couple of guys plotted to abandon her up a creek on a hot day but she played dumb, got them out of the boat and rowed back without them, buts he got a hell of a sunburn because of it. Plus she is old enough to having lived before the introduction of sunblock too.

An incident like that causes problems that don't show up for 30-40-50 years.
