Tagging

I hate having to analyze my fic to try to figure out what it needs to be tagged as. I just want pairing/characters and the most basic warnings. I also don't like tagging on tumblr either.

You don't have to, though.

Not true. I participate in a lot of exchanges and it's considered bad form not to tag with tropes and such.

And it's not just my personal tagging. I don't like others tagging either, especially when I can't see at a glance who's in the fic because it's a wall of tags.

(I don't say anything, obviously.)

To be fair, tagging can help you find a bigger audience,.

This isn't a selling point for me. If the only people who read my fic are the ones who just want the pairing and are up for anything, I would be happy with that. I don't really care for people reading my fic who don't know the fandom or love the pairing like I do (or the characters for gen stuff).

I've read in fandoms I'm not familiar with because I like the author or the trope or something, and have sometimes then gone on to check out the media, but sure only people who adore canon can enjoy your fic, whatever.

True, you're beholden to others in exchanges and whatnot. I'm not a fan of them.

Anyway, I feel you because I don't like excessive tagging, either.

I like tagging to an extent, but I always roll my eyes when I come across a fic where the tags easily take up like, half a page.

Basic warnings and pairing/characters is enough for me. If I need more and don't know what to add, I usually ask my beta how she would tag this. Has helped me a lot, and so far nobody's complained.
