This. I actually like some of the biological parts of it. But the genetic submissiveness/dominance is something I loath. If there were more dominant omegas and submissive alphas, I'd be way more into it.

I haven't read any ABO, but isn't alphas being dominant kind of... the whole point?

Probably. That's just not the part that interests me. The biology of heat and physically needing sex and the other biological differences are what interest me personally.

The inherent sub/dom stuff reminds me too much of people assuming women are submissive and men dominant.

The inherent sub/dom stuff is one of the big squicks for me too for the exact same reasons.

Yeah, this.

Especially when it's got stuff like omegas can get pregnant (even if they're men), "self-lubricating" assholes (plus, yuck)... it's too much like saying female biological traits make you inherently submissive.

Without that, the heat stuff could be interesting.

Yup. Mpreg is another huge squick for me too.

There's actually a really good one in Hawaii Five-0 fandom (if you're familiar at all) that deals with the physical stuff but turns a lot of the dynamics/tropes on their head. It's one of the only ones I'll read because of the lack of squicky dom/sub stereotypes:

If you're curious/interested at all!

Ugh yes. I grew up around "complementarians" ie people who think that traditional gender roles are divinely ordained and the idea of people being genetically designed to be submissive and they are FORCED to live that role no matter what because that's how they're MADE to be is a huge stressor for me. I won't say trigger because I've never had a panic attack over it but it really does an emotional number on me to read shit that promotes that idea even if it's just lolz pr0n that's not meant to be taken seriously. It beings back too many horrible memories of the utter misery I experienced as a teen believing that I only existed so men could have something to fuck and be served by.

This is exactly me. I grew up around this crap. I don't need it in my fics.

ABO is a huge kink of mine, but I can completely agree with this. ABO fics that lean into rather than out of the whole biological determinism thing as a big squick for me. Maybe ABO is just better in the Sherlock fandom or something (which is the main fandom I've read ABO fics in), but I swear I've read dozens of ABO fics where the omega is an independent, competent badass who is not having any of that alpha bullshit.

I mean, if you're looking for the omega to be dominant in the sheets as well as in the streets, that's a bit more rare, but I've read plenty of fics where the omega is an equal party in the relationship, and is very much an active participant in the sexytiems and not just a swooning little doll for the alpha to pound.
