That's probably because he did have his love interest cook, clean, and do the mending for him when he took her as a prisoner-slash-servant. He certainly does his own at canon points previous and subsequent to that, but this is one of those situations where it actually seems pretty reasonable for people to write that dynamic, because it was their actual dynamic for some unspecified span of months or years because that show is absolutely horrible at timelines.
