Most translators let the furigana take precedence when it doesn't match the Kanji and note the difference on the side. It's rather common in Japanese song lyrics. A good set of romaji lyrics would include both the romaji of what's sung and what's written in the booklet and clearly indicate which is sung. For example, the kanji lyrics might say 宇宙 (uchuu) but you'd hear "sora" in the song.

But most of the time furigana takes precedence because that's how the word is pronounced, which is only important when the furigana a) tweaks the meaning (as in the "uchuu"/"sora" example), or b) points out a reading that may not be obvious (say, Byakuya in Bleach uses "kei" to address people - the writer uses the easy 兄 kanji for it, and the furigana specifies that the "kei" reading is used instead of the obvious "ani").

In this case, though, it seems to be simply a difference in pronunciation. I don't know the manga but the furigana seems to be a slangy version of "kateikyoushi". I suppose the main character (or the one who uses the word most often) is one of those foul-mouthed shounen manga guys.

It's a series based on the mafia. I think the pronunciation was based on Reborn calling himself "katekyo- hitman Reborn". It's been a long time since we've heard it from him though. (I miss the daily life arc .__.)
