Do people actually say that? Because it's kind of funny that people who ship something that's culturally taboo are getting judgy about other people who don't ship the culturally taboo thing hard enough.

Yes. Mostly because some parts of fandom will only..."accept" a bad type of relationship (incest, villain/hero, etc) if fans argue that it is a bad relationship. Basically, you can like bad things but only if they are portrayed as a bad thing to like.
