I love the Orphan Account feature.

(Is there any way to use it without first posting the work as yours, though?)

Not that I know of, but as far as I could tell, an orphaned fic won't show in people's alerts IF you orphan it fast enough after initial posting. :P

Yes- post it to the anon collection here:
http://archiveofourown.org/collections/anonymous

Fics in the anon collection do not show up in your works (although they will in your stats or your 'works in collections' page). You will still get notifs of comments/kudos/etc for them and be able to edit/delete/whatever but no one will know who the author is. If you wish you can keep it in the anon collection or then orphan it without ever having it be posted under your name.

No. Unless OP's main pairing is a het couple that people only write doing it missionary. And even then, who cares?

Yeah, I don't disagree with the secret, nor do I want to hassle OP, but when I read the secret my main thought was, "OMG ~anal sex~, REALLY?!"

I guess if the pairing is a fairly straitlaced het pairing, maybe anal would seem risque, though. Especially if OP has shipped exclusively het thus far. I feel like before I started shipping slash, anal sex still seemed kind of taboo to me. Then I got into slash and now anal seems no more risque than PIV sex.

Yep. I never dared to repost several of my older fics I really don't like over there yet, but knowing there's the option of orphaning them if I did one day... I just might.

I wish more authors and artists used this option instead of deleting works. Yes, I know, they can do as they wish with their creations, but it drives me spare.

I think more people don't use it because they don't want to lose control of their works.
