Gillian Anderson won't be in anymore X-Files or American Gods. Maybe she is retiring soon?

link?

Also, that's too bad, but at the same time... I'm not crazy about American Gods and new X-Files isn't exactly something that I can't live without.

"One of those things, unfortunately, will not be appearing again as the new god Media in the second season of “American Gods” on Starz. Anderson says the departure of showrunners Bryan Fuller and Michael Green means she will not return to the show. "

Anderson says the departure of showrunners Bryan Fuller and Michael Green means she will not return to the show.

This is a relief to me. If she'd been cut from the show, I would've been concerned about why. I'm glad she's chosen to leave, and IMO her given reason for leaving is a good one.

I assumed they weren't doing more X-Files after the upcoming season, anyway, but I haven't kept up with the news.

There was a time when I was totally down with the idea of Dogett and Reyes taking over completely and continuing the show,* but at this point, if it's not both Mulder and Scully, I don't care.

*For it to have worked for me, they would have had to leave behind more of the mythology (like a very soft re-set) instead of just continuing to add to the weight of it. Being unable to keep track of such an expansive and unwieldy mythology is what drove me away from the show in it's original run.

I doubt it, as she's only 49 and a very well preserved 49 at that. It's more likely she wants to focus on theatre and more serious acting gigs outside of Hollywood, which is what she's been doing for years. She's also based more out of London than Los Angeles these days and probably wants to stay in one place for her kids.

Given that the writers left American Gods and it's a very expensive show, I have a feeling we just might not get a season two. It's a shame, I enjoyed it.
