I confess I didn't watch this for movie club and haven't seen in in years, but want to tell a story:

My parents took me to see this in the theater. I had just turned three and I remember nothing of the experience. According to my parents, though, I was very quiet as we were leaving the theater and getting into the car, but when they turned to me in the back seat and asked how I liked the movie, I BURST INTO TEARS because it affected me so much. Again, I don't remember any of that, including crying, but I guess I really liked it? I was pretty obsessed with unicorns over the next several years, so I wonder if this was what sparked that or if I loved it because I already loved unicorns.

From seeing it again later on video, I remember thinking that the tree that falls in love with Schmendrick was scary. I think I was afraid it would crush him.

I also really loved the theme song.

That is such a great story! I think I feel the same way about The Lion King. :D
