That's okay, OP. I haven't read certain books because the subject matter hits too close to home or I'm afraid of the way they'll affect me.

There is zero reason to read Berserk if you don't want to, and you don't even need to justify it. I (sort of, in a weird way) enjoy it, but I'm not even sure if this is really a series I can recommend.

I love Berserk and it was one of my favorite manga for awhile, but at this point it feels like it should have ended ages ago, and Muira doesn't seem to care anymore, releasing one issue every 6 months. It's a shame because I've never read a manga where I felt like I was adventuring with the characters, and that they were all real people instead of tropes. I felt so close to them. Still, I'm not sure it's a manga that I would pick up today. When I first read through it, I hadn't been through the trauma that I've experienced more recently. The series is called Berserk, but it really should be called PTSD. The main characters go through such horrid things, and a lot of the story is about their inability to cope. It's really tragic. I can see why someone would avoid it.
