(Anonymous) 2018-01-08 12:21 am (UTC)(link)I loved Carrie Fisher's Leia, and nothing will take that away, but as iconic as she was, Carrie was not Leia. And I love the character enough, and she was such an important part of my childhood that I would prefer the role be recast so Leia can be who she was intended to be rather than being given a death that doesn't suit the story or the character because of the tragedy that happened offscreen. I want Leia to live on, even if Carrie unfortunately cannot.
I don't know that it would happen, though, given opinions like yours and how sacrosanct a lot of fans seem to think every aspect of the franchise is.
