(Anonymous) 2018-01-09 06:14 am (UTC)(link)to be fair, I have seen some beautiful Tolkien fanart due to the secrets, but I will agree...this was certainly not the best example. I wasn't quite sure what fandom this was supposed to be until I read the secret.

(Anonymous) 2018-01-09 07:46 am (UTC)(link)Yeah, I drew the same conclusion upon revision of the secret. There's a lot of variety, and this art portrays what I imagine are a number of events. Which is pretty cool. I wouldn't say it's the most beautiful thing, but it is very creative, and it must have taken a lot of time to make it, so props to the artist anyhow.
I will agree that with books/movieless fandom where there is only a written description, and I'd argue the longevity of the fandom, make for a wife array of work, and more than one depiction of a character or event, which is great, esp. if you are not keen on a particular artist or common fan on depiction.

(Anonymous) 2018-01-09 11:16 am (UTC)(link)I could be wrong, since the secret's text obscures the center of the piece, but I'm pretty sure this art depicts Finrod song-dueling Sauron to defend Beren and their companions (hence the unconscious bodies behind the blond figure in the middle). In that scene, the two characters take turn singing "songs of powers" that invoke images of good and evil respectively to strike at each other -- those are represented by all the assorted scenes bordering the picture.
It's a pretty powerful scene in the text it's found in, and I think the concept for this art is quite cool, which might be the reason the OP chose it. The style is not to my taste either but I must admit when I recognized the scene I was impressed.

(Anonymous) 2018-01-10 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)It's not BAD, but...I've seen way better, and more creative depections of fandoms I don't even care about. It's almost more impressive when amazing fanart comes out of absolute shit series (well, to me, I guess).
