I'm kind of in a weird space with Star Wars. I've been a casual fan since I was a kid, read a handful of fics after Phamtom Menace but then didn't do anything else. I saw TFA and I was suddenly all-in. But not for the sequel stuff. It got me to try TCW and Rebels and comics, and that's where my heart is.

With the sequel stuff, the only thing I really wanted was Force Ghosts. I don't have any elaborate headcanons and the ships I have aren't OTPs that I'm invested in. But I was still disappointed with TLJ. It definitely dampened all my enthusiasm for the sequel trilogy and has tainted (just a tiny bit) some of my OT feels because I feel like Luke, Han, Leia and everyone people had years of investment in are kind of being disposed of now. I don't like things that are at the expense of something else.

But I still have the prequel era and am still loving the content being produced for that. I'm still super excited for the new Thrawn stuff and I think Rebels might end up being awesome (I'm more anxious for this than TLJ as I am way more invested in the characters and ships here).

So, all the sequel talk is kind of bumming me out but there's still a lot to look forward to as a Star Wars fan.

They couldn't have held onto the original trio forever in the SWverse. What would you do differently? I do think what happened to 2/3 of them was kind of....unceremonious? But I don't mind seeing new faces involved.

Personally, I'm a bit surprised that Han survived as long as he did in the movie SWverse, and I say this as a Han fan. I love him but he was always a reckless person who took risks and I'd half-expected him to die at a fairly young age due to that.

Same. I know it would have enraged fans but tbh it would have not been that weird if he had died during the time jump.

I don't mind them dying but it does feel like a letdown that the universe is basically on reset and nothing they did really seems to have any impact. And, storywise, their deaths aren't leading to anything. I mean, so far, Han's death hasn't led to redemption for Kylo (or even making him the big bad; he's just as conflicted as ever). We haven't seen anyone mourn Han or Luke, which makes them feel disposable to me.

It looks like Rey's basically getting nothing from Luke. She took the books and looks like she's going to chart her own path. There are no other Jedi as Luke's legacy (even fixed Jedi that should have learned the lessons he did about the Republic Jedi). And I'm not sure I like where they are going with Luke re: the Force, so I'm not excited about the prospect of him as a Force Ghost. I am anticipating quippy one-liners. Mostly, everything doesn't feel well thought out or satisfying.

And Leia is a tossup because I feel like she might've been done awesome but then Carrie died and pretty much every thread I see assumes she has to be killed off in the next movie, which feels like such a letdown when there's so much that she at least (narrativily and in-universe) could still get to do.

I also dislike the assumption that because I am unhappy with what has happened to the old crew that I am against the new characters or their development. I didn't need this trilogy to be about the old characters. But, if they are there, I don't want them treated the way they are.

I didn't mean to assume that you hated the new characters; So many people want every new trilogy to be the exact same or have the new movies hinge too strongly on the past characters.

I did agree that the deaths were...maybe a little more for shock value than progression of anyone.

Would have loved a lot more of Luke mentoring Rey. Though I think they will still keep him around as a force ghost.

As for Han, I kinda agree. Though I get the impression Harrison Ford might have wanted to be killed off so they didn't try to pull him into future movies.
