Secret the 1st: I hate the "men are trash" mentality. I hate it as a strawman used by anti-feminists, and I hate the so-called feminists who use it as their real philosophy. But despite both those things, Tenko is one of my favorite characters. She's just so cute and sweet when she's not hating on men.

Secret the 2nd: It really ticks me off that the WHOLE damn fandom characterizes her as this out-and-proud lesbian who wears comfy pastel "I Heart Girls" sweaters. Like, IN CANON, she gets asked if she's gay and she angrily denies it! I want fan works where she confronts her internalized homophobia, ones where she overcomes it and ones where she doesn't. Not ones that pretend it doesn't exist. That fanon does a disservice to her character and real wlw who aren't lucky enough to love themselves... like me when I was her age.

As a wlw myself (lesbian specifically)... ...I'm personally TIRED of stories about ~confronting my internalized homophobia~ and shit like that. It's been most of my life, and I deal with too much homophobia in real life to want it too near my pretendy fun times at all. I'm sure a lot of others are as well. But then, I'm also nearly 30 in a bad area.

And as another wlw, I do want those stories, and this character is prime material for them. There are plenty of characters out there who can easily be written as happy lesbians with no homophobia to to get over, and Tenko isn't one of them.

How about: no one fucking owes you anything in fandom or fanworks, and just because you want something doesn't mean you get it. A lot of us are fucking tired of the homophobia we deal with in real life. It's tiring. People like you, while well-intentioned, just tire people like me out more.

I literally almost went back into the closet because I spent so long in fandom surrounded by "homophobia MUST BE addressed in all aspects!!!!" because pretending it didn't affect me was seeming like a better escape than the escape I was trying to find from the fact that people where I live have been beaten to death for being gay, and I've been literally spat on for being so.

Gee it is almost like your experiences and preferences are not universal and you are not the only one who wants, or deserves, to see their experiences and preferences catered to. fancy that

Did you miss the part where OP said she was also a wlw?

Some people are going to want escapism in their fiction, some people are going to want fiction that deals with their issues, and some people like both, depending on their mood.

People who want happy funtimes in their fiction have a tendency to think their preference is the only acceptable type of fiction. It's no wonder all wlw get written as all happy and proud all the time because if they don't, fans like AYRT will come for the blood of anyone who writes them differently.

But

anon didn't say that it MUST BE ADDRESSED IN ALL ASPECTS

they just said that they, personally, want to see it

Fandom is really shying away from stories about internalized homophobia right now. I did hate it when it was omnipresent in fics to the point that authors were occasionally criticized for a lack of realism if they chose not to include it, but I also hate how almost every fic now seemingly takes place in a world where homophobia doesn't exist and every character, as you said, is out-and-proud and wears pastel shirts proclaiming their sexuality to the world, even when it does't make much sense for the character. Both extremes feel very alienating to me.
