The global reaction to the 2011 terrorist attacks in Norway. All the news stories said it was tragic because Norway is such a peaceful country and that's why it got so much sympathy. It made me think about how backwards we are. Why should we have more sympathy for people because they have the luxury of not having a mass outbreak of violence somewhere in their country every day? I wish the news had framed it as an opportunity to remind us to have equal concern for the places where violence is a daily occurrence, instead of focusing on the tragedy of this peaceful place having to go through it a single time.
