It's actually not that hard to determine whether the issue was due to a company policy or a lone kook. That one Walmart greeter who's kind of racist? Not a reason to boycott Walmart. Walmart's corporate policy of paying their sales associates as little as they can legally get away with and keeping them just under the hours where the company would be required to offer them benefits? Good reason to shop elsewhere if you can.

That said, there are a lot of places in the US where Walmart is the only affordable shopping option within a reasonable travel radius. Getting all self-righteous at people who just need to buy school supplies for their kids doesn't help anyone.
