On the one hand, lol, because it's a chicken and they were farm people, of course they ate it. On the other hand if it was a chicken you loved, it would feel tantamount to rehoming your dog and then discovering she was being used as a bait dog in a fighting ring. So I do feel bad for OP.

At least the rooster was probably killed quickly without suffering.
