I mean... I think, in theory, it should be possible to still watch and follow the show while opting out of the publicity cycle. I totally get how annoying it is, but at the same time, you kinda gotta draw your own limits.

I kind of enjoy the hype and the speculation and then eventually the ~grand reveal~, to be honest, but I've also found it really easy to avoid in my experience? I mean, I really only saw it all over the DW account I follow on Facebook and my dad sent me an article link?

I can see not being into it, even if the changeability of the Doctor is one of the foundations of DW, so I like that part of it, but it's not really ALL OVER the place or anything that I've noticed.

The world is shit. A Doctor Who reveal is a bit of fun and a distraction from all the bad shit.

It is corporately orchestrated public relations fun and distraction, which is fine in itself but not necessarily something everyone enjoys

+1

I don't mind the publicity as much as I find the super over-dramatic regeneration scenes themselves. They seem to get more tedious with each regeneration. Blah.

Hard agree. Jodi Whitaker was mentioned in the news every single day for over a month when she was first announced, then another two weeks of daily mentions with the outfit, now there is still the occasional mention of the Christmas special. And that's not mentioning the print ads stuck up in every public space all over the country. Just stop it already.

This. It might be easier to avoid outside the UK, but in the UK it's a lot harder even if you want to.
