What is the oldest thing you own?

That isn't something like a house.

A stuffed dog my parents got me for Christmas when I was 9 and said I wanted a dog.

I'm 35. That dog is 26 and outlived the actual dog they got me the next year by about 13 years.

I've got an end table that belonged to my Dad in the 1970s. I just found out last week my great-granddad bought it for him.

Probably my 1901 copy of Emma? I think that's the oldest book I own.

My blanket I got when I was like two is in my closet somewhere, although it's basically just strings at this point.

Probably some books. I have books that used to be my dad's, and he's had them for a long time.

A ring I got when I was 4. I can still wear it, as a midi ring. It's 10k yellow gold and has a tiny pink stone. It's at least 46 years old.

My childhood blanket. It’s actually older than me. I got it as a hand-me-down and haven’t let go of it since. Honestly impossible to sleep without it touching me in some way.

This gorgeous 1971 Marc Bolan poster which my dad had hanging on his wall as a teenager. Apparently it's worth a fair bit now. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Marc-Bolan-T-rex-Hifly-Origional-Poster-1971-/253342702163

My friend gave me this little silver box that her family used to keep people's baby teeth in. It came from her great-grandmother and she's about my age (50) so it's pretty old. (It was empty when she gave it to me so I don't own anybody's teeth.)

That's neat.

Confession: I spent way too long boggling that someone could be a great-grandmother at age 50, then trying not to judge other peoples' life choices, then FINALLY realizing what you meant. D'oh!

After I typed it I realized that it was confusing. I probably should have fixed it. But good job not being judgmental!

My alarm clock. I got that sucker when I was like seven and I'm in my thirties now. It's never gonna die.

I have one of those charming little Baby Ben clocks my mom used in college in the 70s and it still works!

When I was three my parents sold the tiny farm they’d lived on for the last few years. When they bought it, they had to tear down an existing, uninhabitable termite mound of a farmhouse from at least 1860, and they built a new tiny house out from the one existing sound wall. One of the things in the house was a bunch of tiny tintypes of white people in outfits from the 1860s, which I still have. And my mom found stone arrowheads and a larger stone tool—scraper? Spear point? Something like that. I still have those, too, although sometimes I think I should look up what tribes were from that area and see if they have a museum or historical society or cultural institute I could mail them to.

As far as natural not manmade stuff that isn’t just rocks, I have a fossil ammonite somewhere.

I have a tintype of someone in an American Civil War Uniform (Union) He is somehow related to me I believe but I don't think I even know his name. But it's being stored by my ex so I guess it doesn't count.

Technically an antique watch that was willed to me...but I'd have to get in contact with my ex to actually get it.

A fancy antique desk. Not sure how old it is, but it's from before 1900. Probably the 1880s? It was half price when I bought it, but still one of my more expensive furniture items.

My grandfather's army-issue Bible from the First World War. It went through Mons with him.

A set of original hardcover Oz books from the early 1900s. I think some are genuine first edition. They're so old they only have the original 1904-1908 copyright pages in them, even though all of them have the full series info in the back.

I have a few maps I bought at antique stores to frame as art that are from the late 1800s. I also have a few old bottles and glass electrical insulator that I found around - likely from the early 1900s. My bedside table came from an antique store and I'm guessing it's from before WWII, but I have no idea how old it actually is. I have a some older books I bought at used book stores or library sales - nothing valuable, just things I wanted to read.

I have some stuff from my 80s childhood, including some G1 My Little Ponies, a couple of stuffed animals, and a boxed set of the Narnia books.

The most random old thing I have is a cardboard box. It's in the collection of flattened cardboard boxes I keep squirreled away for an inevitable move. I realized when I was unpacking after moving into my current apartment that it was one of the boxes we used to move back from overseas in 1982. It's still a perfectly usable box.

My pet turtle is 26 years old.
