I think you're absolutely right that giving her a current era movie would make the most sense and work the best within the constraints of the MCU.

I also think that what we're going to get will probably be an origin story, or at best a "how adult Widow was recruited by the good guys" story. It's what they do. Every superhero solo movie has started out with the origin. Fuck, we've had how many Spider-Man reboots that have all started with the origin story now? And that's an origin story that everyone watching already knows.

But I also think that Spiderman is kind of in a weird category where retelling the origin story makes more sense than it does for a lot of superheroes, because the Spiderman origin story is so integral and mythic and central to who the character is, in a way that's not the case for some other superheroes.
