Ah, okay. Because I don't know the games at all, I couldn't tell if you were just shitting on Vikander's Lara because you decided purely from the trailers that you hate Vikander as Lara, or if you had more of a reason than that. But it sounds like you do have more of a reason than that. I can't really say whether I agree with you about the changes in the game, since obviously I know none of the particulars of that. Maybe I'll see if I can wiki it or something.

Oh, Vikander is just about the only choice for the role that I could see working today. I hate the direction the character has been taken in. "We know people never relate to Lara Croft as a hero, so we've put her in dangerous situations, and made her wimper much more so people feel more like protecting her"

I'm paraphrasing quite heavily, but that was the general ethos they've stated to be going for.

Personally, I think you need to show your heroes scared and hurt in order to ground their strength in reality and make it feel genuine. The characters I will always respect the most are characters who push back against their own terror. And I feel that way about male heroes too. Which is a big part of why so many male heroes are boring to me - because we don't see them scared, almost ever.

SOMEtimes, yes, that works. Some heroes have always been more than human, tho, Some heroes don't spent the majority of their game sobbing and afraid. Some heroes are just escapest power fantasies, and thats just fine. I don't want to hear about James Bonds erectile dysfunction, I don't want to know that superman has body issues relating to his skin tight super suit, and I don't want Lara Croft to be afraid of a groupe of dudes with guns.
