According to the internet, crow taste like very dark chicken meat. Closer to duck meat.

They were blackbirds, though, not crows.

I read about a farmer who ate one out of curiosity and he said it tasted terrible. Keep in mind that most animals (apart from pigs) that will eat anything usually don't taste too good.

I expect you can do to them like you do to a raccoon or possum you want to eat: Keep it locked up for a while while feeding it food like corn to "clean it out".

I couldn't eat a raccoon, they're too cute. I had a pet raccoon once.

Right? Since they were apparently living on a diet of the Ingall's corn and oats, i bet they tasted pretty good. :)

I always thought 'well, that was providential -at least they ate good for a while, there!'

It...depends on the crow in question.

I live in Texas, where the crows are real. You know, shot from trees, plucked, roasted, turned into pies, stews, fried crow... you name it. It's also the same price (and sometimes cheaper than) "supermarket crow pie", which is basically a chicken base with fake crow flavor. You can't judge on a mass produced crow product because it's inedible. Something that was shot and baked a week ago, though? Delicious.

I imagined this whole response by an old Texan farmer, complete with an unidentifiable (likely Kentuckian) southern accent. I'm sorry. I couild not help it I thought you were gonna sell me some home made Texan crow pie by the end of it. I watch too many commercials.

Fake crow flavor is a thing?

(Anonymous) 2018-01-23 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
Haha, same here. That book isn't my favorite out of the series because it's a little depressing what with all the crop failures, but I liked that they managed to salvage something from that bird infestation.

It must be hard to gather up four and twenty of the fuckers for just one pie though
