Can't wait for the salt when Get Out wins nothing.

I'd love for it to win but I know better, it's a really strong year that kind of tilts more in favor of Water and Billboards.

I feel like Lady Bird is more the favorite than Water or Billboards - Water and Billboards both feel a lot more divided in terms of audience reactions.

According to AwardsWatch, BP wins per movie from a variety of City-Wide Critic Groups across the country (& Vancouver)

Get Out: 10
Water: 6 (7 if you count the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival)
Lady Bird: 9 (10, counting the Globes)
Billboards: 4 (5, counting the Globes)

So you're on to something, though ordinary audience member reactions don't matter, but AMPAS is so large, there's bound to be a few ordinary opinions that sneak in.

Why? It's a really good movie that's certainly Oscar caliber.

Re: Oscar Nominations are OUT!

(Anonymous) 2018-01-24 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
Because every category it is nominated in has a better winner that is more Oscar friendly.

Oh, I'm not saying that it's definitely going to win, I agree that it's probably a long shot.

What I don't get is why it's unreasonable to be disappointed if it doesn't win, if you liked the movie.

Oh no, I don't care if people are disappointed they like the movie. But I've already seen people saying that if it doesn't when it will be because of racism.

I mean, the Academy SOLVED racism LAST year when Moonlight won!

(Anonymous) 2018-01-24 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
So you think if it doesn't win it will be because of racism?

I was being sarcastic. I've seen it, I've seen Lady Bird and Water, and I can see how the latter two enchanted people and swept them away, even though I like GO more than them.

Best actor's is Oldman's to lose.
Original screenplay could go either way.
I'd say after The Post (No director nom there, at least GO has Peele in the category) it has the second to longest shot of winning BP.

I'm just happy it made it this far.

Um noo sweatie, they set the clock back 100 years by pretending to make a "mistake" so La La Land would have to share the Moonlight's publicity by being the movie that "accidentally" won,

Stay Woke.

Re: Oscar Nominations are OUT!

(Anonymous) 2018-01-24 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
I can't tell if you're trying to say that the mistake was on purpose because the Academy didn't want to give Moonlight full credit, or if you're trying to say La La Land was meant to win, but the Academy took it away from them and gave it to Moonlight at the last minute.

Either way, you sound insane.

NAYRT

I think they're being satirical

Re: Oscar Nominations are OUT!

(Anonymous) 2018-01-24 02:56 am (UTC)(link)
I presume it's a typo, but "sweatie" makes me giggle and shudder at the same time.

When you can't spell "sweetie", it really undermines your attempt to craft a condescending remark.

Re: Oscar Nominations are OUT!

(Anonymous) 2018-01-24 07:05 am (UTC)(link)
It's intentional. Ayrt is being sarcastic.

Sort of like how 'A Fantastic Woman' didn't win at the Golden Globes due to Western imperialism?

Re: Oscar Nominations are OUT!

(Anonymous) 2018-01-24 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think racism is going to make it easier for it to win, certainly.
