I think the obvious destructive force that fire has is why it gets lumped as 'the bad guy's' ability so often, that and the whole fire and brimstone thing with demons, but it would be cool to see it be the power of a good guys for a change.

(Legend of Korra does have Mako as a good-guy firebender and the fire nation isn't the oppressive dictatorship that it once was in that show, so there's one at least, as well as the Avatar using firebending for good and Zuko after he reforms himself).

They also showed waterbenders being bad guys (Amon, Tarrlok, the old bloodbending witch lady)
