Froud designed the creatures, so that would be why...

OH! I had forgotten that. I haven't seen this movie in *so* long. I remember when we first found and bought Froud's 'Faeries' - my gods. SO in love with his art!

You may already know this, but Brian Froud's son plays the baby Toby in the movie. I think Froud himself may even have a cameo in the ballroom scene, as one of the masked dancers.
