Re: Digital Artists!
(Anonymous) 2018-01-26 08:07 am (UTC)(link)Which model are you using/has it or any of the drivers given you any problems? I'm just concerned I'll run into issues when trying to use programs like Krita, inkscape or openstudio (I definitely expect issues there)...Also, how would you compare the quality between the two (since you've used Wacom in the past)?
Your art is lovely! Seeing it makes me realize I really need to upgrade from my scans/pics of my pencil art filled in with a mouse/laptop mouse pad on GIMP :(
Re: Digital Artists!
I have a 1060 Plus. I'm not sure if it's the version that's currently on the website or if it's the previous model, bc Huion seems to update their hardware a lot. As for quality, it's got a slightly different surface texture than a Wacom and the pen works a little different. Huion pens are powers with a cord/batter/charger (depending on the model) and the nib sits firmly in the pen, unlike the Wacoms where it has some give. Mine has the same pressure sensitivity of the large Intuos Pros (8192), but the pressure does register slightly differently between the brands. It's probably not something you'd notice unless you've spent a lot of time drawing on a Wacom tbh.
It has programmable hotkeys but it doesn't have a touch ring, so if you used that a lot for zooming or whatever that might be a problem.
The 1060 also comes with a special film to put on the drawing pad so it doesn't get scratched as easily, and a cover you can use to attach a paper sketch to the tablet so you can trace it. I haven't tried the latter but it looked useful if you do traditional work.
I haven't had any problems with the drivers I got from their website, even in weird programs. Things like the PS angle jitter might not work on the lower end models, but they might have fixed that. From what I've read about them, the Huion drivers tend to be more stable than Wacom for general use, but you're more likely to run into issues using less mainstream programs. However, they supposedly have really good customer service that can help you get the tablet working if you have problems (idk because I never had problems).
ofc I think the biggest thing is, you really can't beat the price. You can buy a good Huion AND photoshop CC AND Sai/whatever other programs you want, and still not spend as much as on an equivalent Wacom
Thanks! <3 Hey now, no need for sad faces, you can do a lot of awesome stuff scanning in pencil art. Like this!

Mixing traditional and digital like that can give a really beautiful effect.
(I hope this all makes sense I'm kind of drunk and half-asleep, sorry!)
ETA stuff: Here's another guy that sketches in pencil and then colors digital. (I'm not really a fan of his art, too much T+A for me, but he's good.)
