Sorry both you and Sharif are feeling bad! Is he the horse in your picture?

I hope relaxing makes you feel a bit better.

Yep! I've had him for almost 20 years. After years of scrimping, saving, selling off all of my videogames and consoles (I still regret that part), doing every odd job I could find and searching high and low for the very perfect horse, I bought Sharif on March 25th, 1998, when he was 5 and I was 12. We had a really rough beginning, due to his former owners having lied to my face about his training level to the point of having drugged him every time I saw/rode him before buying, but with the help of my riding instructor and a cowboy friend of hers, we were able to turn him from a bucking bronco into a fine saddle horse and the best friend I've ever had. I honestly wouldn't trade Sharif for anything. He's my sweet little polar bear princess! ♥

The past few months have been really hard, though, as amyloidosis can be difficult to treat in horses, especially older ones, and there have been many times when I was absolutely sure I'd be saying goodbye to him soon. Add onto that the fact that my family is currently struggling financially in a big way and couldn't pay off the vet bills from last time, meaning the vet wouldn't send out any more medicine until we paid up, and it all made for a somewhat stressful situation. It turns out, however, that I had underestimated the kindness and generosity of my friends and extended family, as I found out when I started a YouCaring campaign, which allowed me to pay off the bill and order a new round of medicine within days of starting it. What's more, I wasn't expecting to know whether the antibiotics were having any effect for at least two weeks, but when my parents came home from giving him his daily dose this evening, they said that he had no blood in his nostrils at all and that his breathing isn't nearly as ragged as it was just a few days ago. He's still got a ways to go before he's out of the woods, but I'm definitely starting to hope again!

Tl;dr: I love my horse so much, y'all.
