The Dark Eldar aren't really the only, or even first, example of this, though.

I mean, given that it's 40K, it's a lot more extreme than in other settings, but, while I'm not overly familiar with Warhammer Fantasy, I'd be surprised if the Dark Elves were significantly different, rather than merely less over the top, and the Drow of D&D are likely the originator of the idea.

(The Dark Eldar are one of my favourite 40K factions, though.)
