Yeah I don't really see this as a problem. If anything canon needs more m/m and f/f relationships.

I also really despise this "why can't they be friends" argument because it's often used as an argument against legit LGBT ships. Victor/Yuri is a recent example where there was a vocal minority insisting that they weren't actually in a romance and that the kiss didn't happen because it was censored. Uranus/Neptune was another one because the dub erased it and also Kunzite/Zoisite (original 90s anime) if it needs to be m/m.
