OK, sure, I agree that if we're talking specifically about (1) RPF and (2) extreme tinhatting RPF, I agree that those people should knock it the hell off.

but also, you know, the original secret didn't actually say anything about that. and as a general statement about shipping (as opposed to tinhat RPF), i don't think it makes a lot of sense.

Hm, okay, but after reading the article, the headline sounds overdramatic and not accurate. The article states that they're still good friends despite the shippers. So yes, the shippers made things awkward for them, but they didn't "ruin" their friendship.

I think these types of things have more to do with ego than anything else. One person is perceived as more popular in fandom and therefore the other(s) take a serious ego hit and jealousy rears its ugly head.
