129 Egregious in *A Bug's Life!?* Or do you mean a queen should have been the natural protagonist in a film about bugs? Because, that movie of all others should have made the most sense to have more males than females...

Maybe f!s has made me bitter, but I can't help thinking that this is the same sort of thing that would be complained about the other way--that if there had been a female protagonist, someone would be bitching about the male/female ratio and how ridiculous it was.

139 You know you want it (http://www.edenfantasys.com/dildos/classic-dildos-and-dongs/tentacle) (NSFW). It GLOWS IN THE DARK.

140 Srsly. The prince sucked, the Beast rocked. I felt bad for Belle.

Ants are mostly female with only a few males. This was not the way the movie portrayed it.

Weird, I think maybe I was thinking of bees? Either that, or my middle school science teacher was having me on. Oh well.

Bees are also mostly (sterile) females with only a few males. Depending on species, the males may do some minor tasks around the hive, but their primary function is to help produce the next generation. If you see a bee or an ant outside the colony and it's doing something other than participating in a mating flight, odds are it's a female.

Well, I always knew I went to a shitty school, but that really takes the cake. Talking it over with my husband, he pointed out that most Disney heroes are heroines, so maybe Pixar was just overcompensating... heh.

I won't feel bad about it (not that I am saying you expect me to, but I'm the type who would) because it's not like there's any motivation to go around checking facts you think are correct, you know?

"Talking it over with my husband, he pointed out that most Disney heroes are heroines, so maybe Pixar was just overcompensating... heh"

You know, I thought the very same thing instinctively, but when I sat down to count them, it's not true. Even supposing you take Tarzan as the cut off point of classic Disney animation there're more blokes (the ones after Tarzan mostly have male protaganists too - Emperor's New Groove /Atlantis/Treasure Planet/Brother Bear -).

Looking at the big hits that have a single protaganist, the breakdown goes like this:

Female = 8
Snow White
Cinderella
Alice in Wonderland
Sleeping Beauty
The Little Mermaid
Beauty and the Beast
Pocahantas
Mulan

Male = 12
Pinocchio
Dumbo
Bambi
Peter Pan
The Sword and the Stone
The Jungle Book
Robin Hood
Aladdin
Lion King
Hunchback of Notre Dame
Hercules
Tarzan

Seconding that explanation about ants, and adding that male ants' only purpose in a colony, as far as we know, is to mate with the queen. Workers, soldiers, etc, are all sterile females.
