If you were referring to that secret, I think the OP wasn't actually saying what you think they're saying? They didn't seem to me to be implying that the story makes the game, and they said they did and WOULD recommend the game, and that it was excellent, had great gameplay, etc. There's really nothing wrong with saying the game is great but the ending of the storyline ruined the storyline for you. The story may not make the game, but it'd still annoy me to have an excellent game with a shitty story, even if I loved the game itself for its gameplay. =X

For the record, I disagree with the OP and loved the story, and didn't see the ending as meaning that at all. But. XD I love the gameplay too, and if the gameplay had been annoying to me, I wouldn't have finished it. Then again, if the story didn't appeal to me, I wouldn't have bought it, because I'm not a huge gamer. The two go hand in hand for me, most of the time.

Well I haven't played this game (if it's what I think it is, The World Ends With You) only because Square Enix screws me over every single fucking time I buy game. I for one play games for the gameplay and not really the story. The only videos games that I bought only because their storylines appealed to me were the Legend of Zelda games.

And that comment wasn't particularly directed at the OP, but rather people who say things like that in general.

That I can understand- I can see gamers being into it for the gameplay, it's just that like I said, I'm more of a story-oriented person and not a real gamer, so. XD And yeah, that's The World Ends With You! I feel... pretty safe recommending it? Because the gameplay really was a blast, for me anyway. A lot of it sounded more difficult or lame than it ended up being. Attacking with the stylus, split-screen fighting, feeding and clothing the characters to up their stats, etc- all of that ended up being really fun. But again, I'm not a major gamer, so it might not be your cup of tea. XD I recommend like... borrowing it or playing a little bit of someone else's copy to see if you like it.

Yeah, I can see where that'd get tiring eventually. I think most of us who say that probably are the ones who are in it for the stories, though. It's just a personal thing with me: if a game has awesome gameplay but a suck story, I might play it but it won't really hold my interest, but if it has a meh gameplay system that I can nonetheless operate and an awesome story, I'll definitely try it out. I think the best thing is to have a good balance when possible. =X

Also, your icon is much love ♥

Yeah, I saw a trailer for it and I was surprised to find myself wanting it. From the looks of it it was DDR...ish. Vaguely. But yeah, it did look different from the route Square Enix goes on most of the time. Too bad my Nintendo DS has been reduced to a pile of wires. I only know is that I'm playing Phoenix Wright when I get a new one just to see what the big deal is.

I agree with you that it's better to have balance then actually SEARCH for conflict on the player's end, lolz.

And HiruMamo is my anti-drug. :P

"I only know is that I'm playing Phoenix Wright when I get a new one just to see what the big deal is."

156 OP's back. If you haven't played my canon, why are you ripping my pairings?

Re: 102

[identity profile] poisontea.livejournal.com 2008-07-09 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
Eh, I know you're not addressing me, but it's not too hard to find out pretty much everything from the online fandom- I've only played the first two games, and yet I had a really, really good idea of all the characters in those two and their interactions before I played them because of the Internet, and I know pretty much everything from the latter two games already as well. Just knowing the details behind Von Karma, Gregory Edgeworth, and Miles Edgeworth (both when Edgeworth was a kid through Von Karma's eventual arrest) might well put some people off quite a bit. It's not personally one of my fave pairings, but I don't mind it myself- I just do kinda get it? XD;

I never physically PLAYED the canon, but I basically know everything there is to know about the story and the characters and stuff. O_o So in that respect, I'm knowledgable enough to know what I (don't) like.

I didn't really think of it that way! Battling with your partner is kinda like that, though, now that you mention it. If you can set up combos... BUT I DIGRESS. Yeah, it was really pretty different! Good luck getting that new DS soon, I liked the Phoenix Wright games myself, but more for storyline than gameplay- though the gameplay was simple enough. (:

HiruMamo is amazing and I approve it being your anti-drug on many, many principles. |D

Re: 102

[identity profile] biocaam.livejournal.com 2008-07-09 10:58 am (UTC)(link)
LOLZ, it's pretty obvious that Phoenix Wright is pretty much a completely story-oriented game, more of a visual novel if you ask me...in fact, I think somebody did call it a visual novel in a review once upon a time.

HiruMamo's right up there with JuuSuzu. (don't ask. o_o)

Re: 102

[identity profile] poisontea.livejournal.com 2008-07-09 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
XD Yeah, it's pretty much entirely story-oriented! I'd hesitate to call it a visual novel, though, only because it was so difficult for me. >_> I hate to admit it but I had to use an online guide, especially for later cases.

Juumonji/Suzuna? 8D Oh my god that would be adorable. For some reason the idea for Monta/Suzuna popped up in my head a few months ago, but beyond even just having the thought I never really did anything with it... XD;
