That's scary. Can you not use F2 on startup and get into BIOS?

Failing that--if you know how to do this--do you have a spare hard drive you can swap in, and then connect the borked drive as an external drive, and--honestly I'm not sure what do after that. But I already have the hardware for that, so I'd at least consider trying to crack the problem from there. Putting in a new HD is not that hard to do, and the external drive system is pretty cheap.

With Win8 and beyond, they've made it a real bitch to get into the BIOS. :\
