My question is "why are there ANY shows set in the modern day that have a decently-sized cast yet don't have ANY canon queer characters?" Because if you pick a group of, say, 20 people off the street at random, chances are pretty good that at least one of them isn't going to be straight. The same should hold true for characters in shows.
