I don't disagree that there needs to be more queer main characters. As a lesbian, I'm always thrilled to see more representation. But I also disagree that queer people's stories are always overshadowed by the straight characters' storylines and the series is still plagued by an ever-growing heterosexual romantic plot tumor. I can think of three examples off of the top of my head with Supergirl (okay, so Alex isn't the lead, and I've not watched this season yet, as it isn't on Netflix yet, but last season Alex's relationship got as much or more time than Kara's), The 100 (the lead character is bi and has had major relationships with girls, and it's not like hetero romances dominate the rest), and The Fosters (many of the main cast). Plus, if you are willing to go with older shows, Person of Interest (which I just binged on Netflix and in which of the four main characters, the only two in a serious relationship are the women, Root and Shaw). I'm sure there are more. Especially as I tend to watch shows with a strong female presence, so I don't watch that much.

I don't deny that there are shows where queer relationships are given the screentime they deserve. (Though those are often flawed in different ways.) But that's not the case for many of the shows that have been recommended in the comment thread for this secret.
