I was already annoyed when they kept reusing the line in the movies, even though there's kind of a legit reason why it had to be repeated. Still cringed, lol.

Idk I found it kinda over-used in fanfic even though it is a canon line, there is such thing as too much, even with things I like.

But I'll grant I'd rather a canon line like that get used than a phrase that is never uttered once by any character yet is everywhere for some inexplicable reason.

Eh, I can see why a reader might think it is overused because we read a lot of fic. But unless the writer is using it repeatedly in their fic, it just seems like a lot because we consume a lot.

Ah that is a very fair point, I tend to binge pairings I'm into for weeks/months at a time so anything that's used enough becomes over-used in short order for me.

That makes a lot of sense actually, previous minor irritation retracted. :P

It reminds me of Double Indemnity, where the almost exact same line was used much more hauntingly.

End of the line! Time to get off the train, Bucky!

I don't know what this is, but now you've put the Traveling Wilburys in my head.

I totally agree. Especially when the story is kind of AU or something and the line is shoehorned in.

I am kinda feeling the same about this line, if only because i've read it in some fic where its used not only more than once, but in situations where it's just not appropriate.

But - less than other fandoms, so that's something.....

What drives me more insane is the number of authors who use some version of 'Stiles popped the "p"' in whatever word he said with a p. He has never once popped a p on-screen nor is that something it seems like he would do. And yet, it's in every other effing fic. Ugh.

So, yes, I agree that phrases are overused, and also so are random verbal tics that have never happened in canon.

(Anonymous) 2018-01-31 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
They do the 'popped the p' thing with the Tenth Doctor a lot in fic too. So your not alone in your annoyance for something like that. Maybe those Stiles authors came from the Doctor Who fandom?

OH MY GOD. The "popped the p" thing is in like every other fucking Spideypool fic. The first time I saw it I was like "hey that's a good description." Then I saw it again. And again. And again.

(Anonymous) 2018-01-31 12:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Wait, you don't think Stiles would do that to be deliberately obnoxious?

(Anonymous) 2018-02-01 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
AYRT

Maybe season 1/2 Stiles, but I don't really think so. He's more of a talker than a make random noises at someone type to me.

In my mind, the idea that it was a recurring phrase between them is the only explanation I can think of for why that one line would jog Bucky’s memory like that. It’s an easy thing to miss, because it was in Steve’s flashback earlier, so it sticks out in the viewer’s mind.

OH MY GOD this is one of my biggest pet peeves in all of fandom. There were some tremendously awful ones with Spike and BTVS too back in the day, as I recall.

(Anonymous) 2018-01-31 04:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree - except for this line being the exception. I'm mighty tired of it at this point.
