Holy crap. I had something similar happen to me recently too, OP. Minus the admiring the writing part, since I haven't really dug through their threads. And it didn't seem quite as hostile as you're describing, but it was definitely shady.

Anyway, I ended up getting banned from a game for 'user harassment', but that didn't happen. Actually, they lied to the mods. Which is fine, but the fact that the mods didn't even look into it was kinda strange. Especially since I had proof that everything they said were lies lol.

They were probably pals with the mods and had a friend who wanted to app your character.

I've actually talked to a few close friends about this and I guess favoritism was/is a major problem within the game. So I don't have any doubts that they may have been friends with the mods, but that's just my own assumptions.

The people in question actually ended up dropping out of the game. They felt unsafe playing with me, apparently. Which is wild. I didn't even app until after they dropped.

I've shown them nothing but respect and got zero back.
