AYRT—one of my favorite costumes is for a replica stage show and the fabric is custom embroidered for every new copy of that costume. I’ve considered destruct-testing my crappy embroidery machine, but by my best estimate just the machine embroidery would be 200-300 hours of work before the patterning or sewing started. Another costume from the same show uses custom printed shot-silk made by a single husband and wife team that retails for $500/yd. Since it’s shot silk, the replicas on Spoonflower are all close but no cigar.

you're speaking my language anon. unf shot silk and embroidery!

I know how it goes. We have a customizable embroidery machine and sometimes the work involved in jacquarding or making an all-over garment-sized design is enough to nope right out of it. At that rate it would almost take the same amount of time to hand-embroider it. /looks at Chinese fantasy designs, shakes fist
