I'm not going to a movie to be "challenged." I'm going to be entertained. Just because people don't want to see something doesn't mean they don't ~understand~ it ffs.

Then don't see the movie, which obviously wasn't made for that type of viewing all the way through. But if you think it makes the fish man a villain or the movie bad, yes, I'd say you don't get it.

What is the word "if"? And I didn't say that anyone who doesn't want to see the movie doesn't understand it, just disagreeing with viewpoints like the OP's, while we're whining about putting words in mouths, or unprovoked disputes, lmao. Maybe I could have made it more clear I was referring to general reactions and not previous comments, but that still comes down to your defensive assumption.

This is DEFINITELY a movie meant to challenge.

The entire theme of the movie is to challenge the viewer, particularly about the myth that America was ever "great". So if you don't like that sort of thing in a movie, you'll hate The Shape of Water.
