The cat’s death isn’t played for laughs or used to belittle its owner. In fact the creature regrets causing the owner pain and is shown trying to befriend the other cats after apologizing.

That'll make me feel better about but I'm still gonna close my eyes because I really don't like animal death(or young kids) in movies, and just to clarify I wasn't blaming the monster, I haven't seen the movie yet so I can't talk about a context I haven't seen.

I just want to avoid that moment and watch the rest of it.

The bulk of my rambling was more about media in general, not this particular case.

Close your eyes when the fish man roars and cat hisses back. Keep them shut until you hear running.

There's another scene after that where the dead cat is blurry in the background, but you won't see it if you focus on Giles and Elisa in the foreground.
