Do we really want to live in a culture where everything is done via an app, though? I get that it saves time, if you have a large order like that - but there's something to be said for talking to a real person at the till, instead of slowly losing all of our people skills because all we do is use apps and talk to each other on the internet.

There's a time and a place, though. It's one thing to appreciate the virtues of slowness and conversation on a lazy Saturday morning. It's another thing entirely when you're ordering 5 coffees from Starbucks in the middle of a work day.

Ugh, yes - let's lose our ability to be patient, social, and human because we need to be more efficient servants to the capatalist machine.

Never mind the fact that there are probably better ways to get coffee than rewarding an overpriced corporate chain for being overpriced just because they can.

It's not losing that ability to recognize that there are circumstances where efficiency matters, not just for the sake of the capitalist machine but for the sake of all your fellow people who are enmeshed in that machine. The problem isn't that taking a long time to get coffee is inconvenient for employers. The problem is that taking a long time to order is inconvenient for everyone else in the coffee shop.

I'm all in favor of workers wasting as much of their day as possible. If the person getting the coffee wants to just hang out and chat for hours, fine.

I get what you're saying - but personally, I think it's time we all try and break free from that machine.

I think that if you really feel that way, you should be making your own coffee and inviting all the people you want to socialize with to partake of it. Otherwise, you're just another oblivious, self-absorbed person who just can't understand why the rest of the world isn't content to bask in your presence trying to mask that confusion in trite philosophy.
