WTF does the director likes or hates have to do with it? Some people just don't like seeing cats or other animals being killed. No esp involved, so just stop trying to read so much into it.

I thought you meant there's no meaning to the scene?

I don't know what you think I'm reading into. As I've explained, I was responding to people projecting their feelings about the cat onto whether the fish dude is sympathetic, not their general desire to avoid seeing that scene.
