The unspoken loneliness of this makes me want to revisit "Chobits" now that I'm an adult who has Seen Some Shit, relationship-wise, and can better appreciate "unhealthy attachment to my [x]-shaped computer instead of people." Being anime I trust there are many such shows?

There are definitely many anime shows about androids and such. Unhealthy attachment stories tend to be human-looking robots though with a romantic implication. I think with this, the idea is having a robot in more of a "pet" role instead. Definitely fills a similar "unspoken loneliness" role, but seems significantly less far down the rabbit hole.
