Yes. So much so that every time the topic comes up, people are so eager to rush in and denounce the people who justify/apologize for villains, even if no justifying/apologizing has taken place yet.

I get that. But I think people often fail to understand that they're not dealing with a monolith here. Saying that well, you once had a run in with a Kylo stan that got ugly, so from now on whenever his name comes up you're going to lay a righteous smackdown on whoever dared utter those cursed syllables and expect everyone to find that reasonable.

not an excuse anymore. it's time to get over the few fans you still hate and stop forcing all villain fans to preemptively prove themselves to you, because you probably ignore tons of fans who don't do that. many hero stans are also obnoxious and policing but nobody forces them to acknowledge their faces aren't perfect.
