its a new coat of paint on an old argument. 'Your ship threatens my ship and therefore - '. It used to be phrased in the 'your half of the pairing is unhealthy/bad/manipulative/etc for character I want my character to hook up with' (and that goes back to at least Gundam and FFVII). Its just that those arguments don't have the visceral impact throwing around words like 'pedophile' do. Shippers have stepped up their game to fit better with the SJW setting. It's still the same 'I have to give a reason your pairing sucks beyond the fact I don't like it and want other people to not join your camp' - its just wearing a different dress.

That said I remember rumbles of age-gap wank in Gundam all those ages ago. Mostly to make sure the boys didn't hook up with any of those icky girls.
