Re: Really?

Obviously, you can never say for sure, but I think the problem was that it seemed like it was staged for publicity - and not only that, but really flagrantly and obviously and poorly staged for publicity. It made it annoying to see news about and it made it impossible to take it seriously and the whole thing felt really, really awkward and embarrassing.

And I think there's also an element of like... Taylor Swift had a playbook of publicity tricks that she'd been using for a long time, and it had worked pretty successfully, and then to see those exact same tricks used in a context where it was so totally unsuccessful and awkward, it makes it much more dissonant. So there's that context as well. And I think it was when people were generally starting to feel that she was too overexposed.

But mostly, it was really badly done for publicity.

I'm baffled people actually a) give a fuck about who other people are dating and b) actually pay that much attention.

It's just *boring*!

It's kind of interesting sometimes in terms of stage management and narrative and stuff - the way that it gets pushed and the reasoning behind it and how planned and calculated it can be is pretty interesting sometimes. Especially if it's someone who's a pop figure where the narrative is often connected to the stuff that they make - where there's a connection between the public persona and brand, and the music or whatever. And also, it often helps if they're pretty.

All of that is, to me, the ultimate in boring. I just cannot care. I rarely know if an actor i like is dating or even married, certainly don't seek out that information, just...can't conceive of caring.

More power to you if you dig it, but...wow, no. So far down on the list of 'things i give a damn about'.

I didn't pay close enough attention at the time to form an opinion on whether it seemed staged, and it's hard not to think the people insisting it was were off in some kind of FakeBaby-style denial. I figured even odds it was staged or just two hot people hooking up, but I wasn't really in a position to tell.
