Honestly, this is a huge fucking problem with spinoffs of extremely long-running shows in general - people who don't like the parent show assume that it's not for them, and people who do like the parent show often don't want another show to watch. People associate the spinoff with all the flaws of the parent show, but it doesn't have the characters they want to watch.

This. If I don't like a particular show, I assume I'm not going to like a spinoff either because a) I assume it's going to be more of the same thing as the original show and b) I also assume that it requires me to have at least a basic working knowledge of the original show. There is nothing about spinoffs that makes me want to check them out unless I like the show they're spun off from.
