I'm a very casual fan of a huge franchise with a massive fandom, and I love how practically everything is a ship. I got curious about some of the characters and looked up fic, art, etc, and there's a virtual smorgasbord of stuff for pretty much every pairing/character/OTP/OT3/OT56744, you get the idea. This is my first big fandom, and for some reason I'm really happy about the bounty, even though I don't participate in any of it (or know much about the quality of any of it).

Big fandoms are awesome especially when you just get to dive in and consume all of the content. Rarepair-happy fandoms especially.

I can imagine! I wondered about two particular characters, if they were a ship. Yep, nearly 8k entries on AO3 alone, lol!

I dunno about favorite, since I haven’t actually watched since season 3, but Once Upon a Time is finally ending after 7 seasons. I’m more worried about the effect it’ll have on my already shrunken corner of fandom. I need a new main fandom, tbh, but fandoms that I like enough to do more than read the occasional fic for are rare; my longest stint in a single fandom lasted 17 years and I still occasionally dip my toes in. 5 years in my corner of OUAT fandom was a blip in comparison.

Locus released their lists of notable science fiction, fantasy, and horror for 2017, the Hugo nominations opened, Puppies are pissed, as usual, and a mess of them accused Foz Meadows's husband of being a blogger and something something MZB/Breen.

Foz Meadows is published, out as bi, out as genderqueer, and mildly active on twitter, which I think explains some of the prejudice.

It'd be one thing if it were limited to the Puppies but I've also seen it across a pretty wide spectrum of circumstances.

Ugh. I hadn’t realized the Puppies were still whining. There’s plenty of new sci-fi and fantasy starring Squarejaw Stubble McWhitey with bonus Green-Skinned Space Babes. I never paid attention to the Hugos except to be happy when one of my favorite authors won for something, and it’s fucking creepy that the Puppies’ persecution complex is so ingrained they gamed a literary award because how dare everything not be about Straight White Christian Males having Manly Adventures?

But then, I'm a (mostly) rational human being who is not in the habit of seeing a conspiracy behind people liking a book I don't like.

It's kind of a 360 degree smear. Toby Meadows is accused of having a secret life as an anonymous blogger with a history of shitposting on puppy blogs. Foz Meadows is accused of having a sockpuppet in the family to promote her interests. Camestros Felapaton was accused, first of having a vested interest because it's about ethics in gamingsff journalism, and second of being the husband of a queer person, therefore likely queer himself because no right-thinking straight man would do that and you know who else in the genre was bisexual and married? MZB/Breen!
